Survey Finds Consumers Define ‘Green’ Home as Saving Energy and Water

Once local jurisdictions adopt the 2009 IRC, blower door technicians are likely to get very busy. One of the most cost-effective ways of lowering residential energy costs is to reduce a home’s air leakage rate, so it makes sense for energy codes to ratchet up air-sealing requirements. Senate Bill Promoting Energy Efficiency Could Be Worse, But Concerns Remain

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) on May 12 introduced legislation to promote energy efficiency in a variety of areas, including energy codes for new homes and commercial buildings.

Appraisers Making Headway in Recognizing Value of Green Home Features

The continuing effort to provide recognition for the added value of energy-saving and other green features in homes will take another step forward around mid-summer when the Appraisal Institute is expected to add a green and energy addendum to its appraisal report form.

Green builders have been waging an uphill battle in recent years to convince the lending community to recognize the difference between homes that are just built to code and those that incorporate techniques, systems and products that can dramatically reduce monthly utility costs, which represent a significant expense for home owners.

Ferrier Custom Homes Receives Green Remodeling Award from NAHB

Congratulations go out to Ferrier Custom Homes who received an award from the National Association of Home Builders for a single-family green remodel under $100,000.

Thirteen builders, remodelers and other home building industry professionals were honored yesterday as winners of National Green Building Awards by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) at the 13th annual National Green Building Conference in Salt Lake City. 

“These awards recognize and celebrate the most forward-thinking builders and remodelers in green building,” said Bob Jones, immediate past chairman of NAHB and a builder from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. “These award winners are pushing the envelope of what we can achieve with energy and resource efficiency.”
